Please be advised that as part of our ongoing terminal and customer experience, Darwin International Airport will undertake Front of House laneway works. People travelling through Darwin Airport will be impacted by these works and we ask for your assistance with a temporary change to operations. 

Scope of works

  • Demolition of current canopy paved areas between lanes.
  • Works associated with the relocation of fire infrastructure/fire booster.
  • Installation of Shade Sails in front of the terminal building. 
  • Removable bollards are to be installed at the eastern and western ends of the two traffic lanes closest to be terminal building. 
  • Minor landscaping works.

Summary of works

The works will take place right in front of the terminal building and it is foreseen that taxi operators, private hire and limousine services will be impacted by the execution of the project.

Further information is provided below on the proposed phased works implementation: 

Stage 1 – Estimated dates 12th August – 22nd August 2024

Demolition of the current canopy structure, the commercial vehicle drop-off lane will be closed, and commercial vehicles (taxis/Limos/Private hires) are requested to drop passengers off via the Public 2 -minute express drop-off lane, the private hire pick-up rank will be unavailable during this time, please use the Short Stay car park for all meet and greets.

 Stage 2 - Estimated dates 22nd August – 06th September 2024

Construction of a new fire equipment enclosure and trenching across the lanes closest to the terminal building to relay piping.  The taxi/Private hire drop-off lane will be closed, and commercial vehicles (taxis/Limos/Private hires)  are requested to drop passengers off via the 2-minute express drop-off lane.  The private hire pick-up rank will be unavailable during this time, please use the Short Stay car park for all meet and greets.

Stage 3 – Estimated dates 09th September – 27 September 2024

Commercial vehicles (taxis/Limos/Private hires)  are requested to continue to use the 2-minute express drop-off lane for drop-offs, in addition, the private hire pick-up rank will be unavailable during this time. Please use the Short Stay car park for all meet and greets.

After the completion of the above works, there will be a 10-week wait period before the steel structure supporting the sails and the shade sails will be installed. More details regarding the installation of the steel structure and the impact on traffic will follow in due course.
